Information for Sellers

Things to do before putting your home on the market.

  1. Make A Good First Impression: Curb appeal is critical. Realtors say buyers decide within ten seconds whether or not to purchase a home. Increasing your curb appeal means: lawn mowed, attractive landscaping, driveway and sidewalks in good repair, front door and entry fresh and appealing. You don't get a second chance at a first impression.
  1. Remove The Clutter: Too much stuff makes a house look small. Clean off the counter tops, rearrange the furniture, remove last seasons clothes from the closets. Have a garage sale or rent a storage locker. You live in a house one way and sell a house another way.
  1. Make Small Repairs: Fix those: burned out light bulbs, leaky faucets, squeaky doors, cracked windows, torn screens, chipped paint, torn carpet etc.
  1. Clean Everything, Then Clean It Again: A dirty house turns buyers off. Buyers will overlook some dated features if a house is spotless. Wash the windows, shampoo the carpet, clean the oven, clean the tub and shower, dust above the doors. Want to go that extra mile? Paint the basement floor (if unfinished), clean the drapes or blinds, clean out the kitchen cabinets and change the furnace filter. Make cleaning a family project and keep it clean until sold.
  1. Shop The Competition: Before you put your house on the market tour the competition. Be objective, how do you stack up? Then go home and tour your own home as if you were a buyer.
When preparing to sell it is the little things that count. Neat and clean, light and bright and priced right.
